In the thousand-sun network of humanity's expansion, new colony worlds are struggling to find their way。 Every new planet lives on a knife edge between collapse and wonder, and the crew of the aging gunship Rocinante have their hands more than full keeping the fragile peace。

In the vast space between Earth and Jupiter, the inner planets and belt have formed a tentative and uncertain alliance still haunted by a history of wars and prejudices。 On the lost colony world of Laconia, a hidden enemy has a new vision for all of humanity and the power to enforce it。

New technologies clash with old as the history of human conflict returns to its ancient patterns of war and subjugation。 But human nature is not the only enemy, and the forces being unleashed have their own price。 A price that will change the shape of humanity -- and of the Rocinante -- unexpectedly and forever。。。

Bueno, esto se intensificó rápidamente。

That was epic!!! I thought the Babylon’s was an anti climax…But this I demolished, couldn’t put it down。 The glitch。。that’s all I’m saying。 Tiamat’s wrath turns up tomorrow and I’ve heard it’s better。 This was a perfect balance between character development and space battles which in this book are are on point。 Dammmm

Why is authoritarian regimes the fall back position of writers? Yes other governments try to take over they all do not need to be authoritarian。 The rest was good。 The aging of the crew, the solidifying of the governments etc。

Wow。 Just Wow。It amazes me how these two authors can craft bookafter book with creative thought/conflict/drama likethey have。 This Book #7 has a fantastic plot and ofcourse excellent suspense with in depth characters It ends a bit melancholy but it makes one all the moreeager to get going on Book #8。Highly Recommended, as long as one has read Book#s 1-6 first。

Best in the series so far。 Rivoting action。 Beautiful prose。 Excellent storytelling。 Set 30 years in the future of book 6 -- this kicks off an entire new trilogy that is the best yet, as far as I'm concerned。 There is a scene at the end of the middle build that brought me to tears。 I care about these characters that much。 Can not recommend this series enough。 So many interesting issues explored: aging, the consequences of technology, politics -- along with the relentless story line makes this a Best in the series so far。 Rivoting action。 Beautiful prose。 Excellent storytelling。 Set 30 years in the future of book 6 -- this kicks off an entire new trilogy that is the best yet, as far as I'm concerned。 There is a scene at the end of the middle build that brought me to tears。 I care about these characters that much。 Can not recommend this series enough。 So many interesting issues explored: aging, the consequences of technology, politics -- along with the relentless story line makes this a true page-turner。 。。。more

So I'm about to spend this review criticizing and nitpicking what is essentially a really strong book。 Do I like it as much as several of the others in the series? No。 But I also wouldn't still be reading the series if it had fallen off a cliff already。Consider everything after this to be major spoiler territory, and these to be the rantings of a deeply invested fan who has gripes, but nothing earth-shattering enough to abandon ship。Listen, authors, I know one of the themes in this story is "his So I'm about to spend this review criticizing and nitpicking what is essentially a really strong book。 Do I like it as much as several of the others in the series? No。 But I also wouldn't still be reading the series if it had fallen off a cliff already。Consider everything after this to be major spoiler territory, and these to be the rantings of a deeply invested fan who has gripes, but nothing earth-shattering enough to abandon ship。Listen, authors, I know one of the themes in this story is "history repeats itself," but did we really need to spend several prolonged action sequences blowing up Medina Station again? We fought a huge battle on it when it was still the Behemoth and it seems like we can't go two books since without having to take a chunk or three out of this ship。 I'm sure the science behind what they did was smart, it pretty much always is, but I admit that the action/sabotage sections made my eyes glaze over more than a little and I ended up skimming them by the end of the book because they just kept blowing stuff up。(Once they were instead blowing stuff up on the Storm, I started paying closer attention again。 Taking an enemy ship like that was cool and honestly unexpected。)I'm groaning at the renewed (future) importance of my least favorite POV character to ever show up in the series, Elvi Okoye。 While I'm glad we're finally circling back to the mysteries of the protomolecule and the hyper-advanced, unknown enemy that took out their civilization, I can't exactly be thrilled knowing she's coming back, whether as a POV character or not, because she was the worst part of Cibola Burn。 I suppose I can hope that the thirty intervening years have made her wiser, or at least less annoying。。。While I mostly like how our core crew have aged up over the time jump, and how the authors have shorthanded the missing years by showing us minor and believable changes to each individual and their relationships, I really felt like Alex got shortchanged in this book, with a hand-waved second marriage and basically nothing to do with himself。 Even Bobbie's best-friend-ship with him, while excellent, doesn't give him any real importance to the plot--everything he contributes to the insurgency is basically "this is how the Laconians either are or aren't like the Martian military I remember in ways we can exploit" and Bobbie can and does provide that exact same role and information。 (Because I am reading this after the end of the fifth season of the show, I know that Alex was killed off, a major deviation from the books, and while that was for reasons relating to the actor and not the story, I'm beginning to see why they felt like they could get away with it, plot-wise。 Alex just isn't important here, at all。 And I wonder if he will be going forward。)I was pleasantly surprised to find Avasarala still alive, as she's always been a favorite。 I found Drummer ending up as a war leader as weird and uncomfortable as she herself did, in-universe, but instead of that drawing me closer to her as a reader, I felt her POV chapters alienating。 I guess because I knew her first in her greatly expanded role on the show (being a show-watcher rather than a reader until book/season 4, when I finally caught up) I feel like she's been so many things, because she's been so many different characters, quite literally, since show!Drummer took over the narrative of two book characters in addition to her own。 This didn't feel like a natural evolution for her, the way the Roci crew felt in their older versions; and I do get that she's in a position she never expected and was unprepared for, so that's deliberate。 But I think her chapters were some of the least interesting in the book。I think that's it, my list of complaints。 As I said, still a good book, and it takes the series in an interesting direction。 I do think it's a solid opening to the beginning of the end, and I'm still going on with the series, but I had issues I wanted to whine about。 。。。more

Decent book in series。 Did not form a selfcontained story, rather the first half of the final chapter。

Can't rate this anything less than 5*。 I loved the POVs in the book and particularly enjoyed Singh and Drummer who showcased the changes to the systems that happened in the time after Babylon's Ashes。 Can't rate this anything less than 5*。 I loved the POVs in the book and particularly enjoyed Singh and Drummer who showcased the changes to the systems that happened in the time after Babylon's Ashes。 。。。more

4。25 starsI love love love this series。 The characters and universe are amazing。 This book lays the groundwork for moving toward the conclusion of the overall story and does so in an exciting way。 Anyone looking for an engaging sci fi epic should check out The Expanse。

I think that I'll forego any references to plot, because I don't like spoilers myself。 This is yet another well written, creatively conceived page turner of an adventure。 As always with "Corey", the plot is character driven, which is why the Expanse books are so compelling。 Needless to say, if you're ready to read #7, you know the basic drill, and all that matters is that PR maintains the brand。 Great read (really)! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Yesss! A time jump! After books 5 and 6 which I wasn’t super crazy about, I was happy to get away from the Marcos story line and get back to the protomolecule。 I found some of the chapters a bit tedious to read but thought it really moved the story along and am excited to read book 8。

Another great installment of an epic space opera。

After 6 thrilling books, I was first reluctant to pick up Persepolis Rising, thinking by now no new interesting angles and storylines were possible。 I was so wrong。 As usual JsaC takes a couple of chapters to set the stage and then opens up the throttle to go full speed, taking me in all the way until the excellent ending that demands picking up the next book immediately。 PR takes the bold move to jump 30 years ahead in time, when Laconia ends their self-imposed exile from the rest of humanity。 After 6 thrilling books, I was first reluctant to pick up Persepolis Rising, thinking by now no new interesting angles and storylines were possible。 I was so wrong。 As usual JsaC takes a couple of chapters to set the stage and then opens up the throttle to go full speed, taking me in all the way until the excellent ending that demands picking up the next book immediately。 PR takes the bold move to jump 30 years ahead in time, when Laconia ends their self-imposed exile from the rest of humanity。 They take over Medina and set a new dictatorship for all Ring systems under Laconia rule。 Our trusted Roci crew leads the uprising in Medina, which they eventually win and they escape in exile, but since Laconia conquers Sol system and recapture Medina, PR ends with whole humanity under Laconia rule, Holden in their cell and the rest of the crew in exile waiting for their chance for revenge。 Next stop Tiamat’s Wrath。 。。。more

The Expanse is space opera at its finest。 The "scientific" explanations are plausible and thought provoking。 The relationships between characters are meaningful。 The setting and plot expands with each book (single solar system to universe)。 I'm really enjoying this series。 The Expanse is space opera at its finest。 The "scientific" explanations are plausible and thought provoking。 The relationships between characters are meaningful。 The setting and plot expands with each book (single solar system to universe)。 I'm really enjoying this series。 。。。more

3。5 stars, rounded down i struggled with this one a little bit。 it’s not that i didn’t like it, but the first half felt like we were just going through the motions。 it’s a bit understandable-these books have been around a long time now-but still disappointing in a series that i really love。 it didn’t drag like the last book, but i really didn’t find it particularly compelling or unputdownable until i reached the last 200 pages or so。 those pages were great! exciting, full of difficult decisions 3。5 stars, rounded down i struggled with this one a little bit。 it’s not that i didn’t like it, but the first half felt like we were just going through the motions。 it’s a bit understandable-these books have been around a long time now-but still disappointing in a series that i really love。 it didn’t drag like the last book, but i really didn’t find it particularly compelling or unputdownable until i reached the last 200 pages or so。 those pages were great! exciting, full of difficult decisions and great character moments, and the reason this gets a 3。5 instead of a 3。 part of the problem was santiago singh’s chapters。 it seemed to me early on they were going the “this guy has loved ones and is just doing his best, unfortunately his best is fascism” route, which i did not find interesting in the least。 however, when i started viewing it as “this guy sucks and we are watching him step in it with every step he takes” i liked his chapters more。 though still, he wasn’t that interesting! as always i loved being reunited with the rocinante crew, though i was sad about how little holden povs there were。 there really wasn’t a lot that i didn’t like, but there wasn’t much to love either。 it does seem like a perfect example of the series going on too long。 obviously i am going to read the next one, and i just hope that it is better than this。 persepolis rising definitely leaves us off in a much more interesting position than it started, so i’m looking forward to tiamat’s wrath despite my feelings about this one。 。。。more

Another good installment in the series。 As usual, the characters were rich and full of nuance。 The emphasis on their aging was a bit overdone but their current status and relationships with each other wer plausible and complex。 The ending however was very unsatisfying and left me only wanting to get to the next book in the series。 It didn’t feel done like the other books did。 Still four stars。

Trying to get back to the roots of the series, it comes off poorly, but brings with it a very interesting shift in the series。

Oof。 Really bleak。 Good, but darker。 Definitely struggled a bit to get through this one。 I loved the moral grey-ness。 Gonna slow the next book to wait for the final book to come out。

This is the 12th book in The Expanse series I've read, and again I'm excited and delighted。 The Expanse series is part of the near-future science fiction sub genre, depending on your definition。 Things don't come easy。 They need to be figured out。 They don't always work perfectly。 Terraforming has not been perfected。 There are whole populations that grew up without sufficient gravity, who could never safely go down a gravity well to a planet like Earth, and whose bodies look like they've always This is the 12th book in The Expanse series I've read, and again I'm excited and delighted。 The Expanse series is part of the near-future science fiction sub genre, depending on your definition。 Things don't come easy。 They need to be figured out。 They don't always work perfectly。 Terraforming has not been perfected。 There are whole populations that grew up without sufficient gravity, who could never safely go down a gravity well to a planet like Earth, and whose bodies look like they've always lived in low gravity。 Weapons, propulsion, food, it's all work, and all discussed in the series in ways that pull you deeper into the world that's created。And that's where The Expanse is part of another sub genre of sci-fi - space opera。 In space opera the author creates an entire world, with distinct languages and cultures and histories, not just characters and stories。 You could feel this from the earliest books in The Expanse series, but in Persepolis Rising you definitely feel it。 You also experience so many characters and their motivations and needs and wants and pain。 The way all of the stories and desires of different characters overlap and crash into each other makes this a really fantastic story。 Early on it seems like all hope is lost, and later on the feeling might be the same, but for different reasons。 Doors and corners。 Doors and corners。 。。。more

What a roller coaster of excitement, thrill, drama and loss。Laconian High Consul has really high ambition and some really high expectations from his team。A rather unexpected end for young Governor Singh, and Claire went out fighting, in all glory, and it seems like a fitting end for character。Can't wait to get my hands on next book in series。 What a roller coaster of excitement, thrill, drama and loss。Laconian High Consul has really high ambition and some really high expectations from his team。A rather unexpected end for young Governor Singh, and Claire went out fighting, in all glory, and it seems like a fitting end for character。Can't wait to get my hands on next book in series。 。。。more

Another solid progression in this scifi space opera。 I'm really enjoying just how well each book fits into the greater, overarching story line of the series。 What I like most is how much time progresses between this book and some of the first books。 Our characters are aging。 When the series started they were young and flying by the seat of their pants, now they are middle aged and maybe a little more and as they age their approach to things changes。 I like this maturity written into their storie Another solid progression in this scifi space opera。 I'm really enjoying just how well each book fits into the greater, overarching story line of the series。 What I like most is how much time progresses between this book and some of the first books。 Our characters are aging。 When the series started they were young and flying by the seat of their pants, now they are middle aged and maybe a little more and as they age their approach to things changes。 I like this maturity written into their stories and actions。 In this book they're still at the center of the solar system's conflict between the new worlds and the inner planets。 As always allegiances are every shifting and changing。 I like how this novel brought everyone back to one location for the most part。 The previous novel spaced the characters out among the universe for large portions of the story, but here we have them again working together in the same location on Medina station for the most part。 The novel does a great job with pacing and keeping you engaged with such a vast story where it could be very easy to get lost。 As always the conflicts are wrapped up nicely in the end with plenty of questions going into the next book, which I'm again looking forward to。 Solid book, great series, still one of the better scifi universes out there。 。。。more

So far my least favourite book in the series。 I did like some parts very much, but I think mostly it fell flat because the laconians seem so one-dimensional。 Can't say too much more without going into spoiler territory but yeah, I hope this picks up again with the next one。 So far my least favourite book in the series。 I did like some parts very much, but I think mostly it fell flat because the laconians seem so one-dimensional。 Can't say too much more without going into spoiler territory but yeah, I hope this picks up again with the next one。 。。。more
